This camp will focus on the fundamental aspects of throwing and fielding and will include drills to help you become a more fundamentally sound defensive player.

A former softball player for the University of Kansas, Shannon McGinley ended her career at Kansas this past spring with a perfect 1.000% with 92 putouts. Offensively she recorded a .344 batting average and a .435 slugging percentage. In her last season at KU Shannon started all 51 games in left field, recorded 53 hits, 11 doubles, and 31 runs scored while also recording a team best of 10 sacrifice hits in 2016. She registered the longest bases reached streak on the team, safely reaching in 28 straight games. A defensive standout in the outfield, this past spring Shannon made ESPNís Sports Center Top 10 as the #3 play with a home run robbing catch against Oklahoma State. In KUís win last year against national champions, Oklahoma, Shannon drove in 4 of KUís 5 runs with a pair of doubles. Starting her career in the ACC at the University of Virginia, she later transferred to Kansas to play her remaining three seasons alongside her sister Erin. Shannon is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team, an NFCA Easton Scholar Athlete, and was named to the NFCA All-Region Third Team. Since graduating from KU with a degree in Business Shannon is starting her own business in the exercise/fitness arena. She is also conducting individual lessons in both batting and fielding to several area athletes in Kansas City. She has received instruction from some of the finest softball coaches in the country, including John Rittman, current KU Associate Head Coach, who has also been a head coach for Stanford and the U.S. Olympic team. Shannon has played softball since kindergarten, and has competed in multiple sports with great success, including gymnastics, volleyball, and basketball. Her years of playing sports at the highest level have given her a unique perspective on how to relate to and instruct athletes looking to become the best they can be. She is able to motivate and encourage in a way that makes players better.

Mike Keener is a true fundamentals coach, and has been Shannon McGinley's summer and high school softball coach as well as her college hitting and fielding coach. He spent many years in the Shawnee Mission District coaching both high school softball and baseball.
