Default Post season to begin this week

MIAA

My favorite time of the year for softball. Colleges begin their post season and it starts with conference tournaments. The MIAA did determine it’s final seeds. I am excited for SW Baptist, whose program was in ashes and Coach Flora has done nice job of making them competitive and are now in the conference tournament after many years of no participation. Listed below is the tournament games:

Missouri Western went 23-3 in the league and won the MIAA regular season title and shored up the top seed in the MIAA Softball Tournament scheduled for April 28-30 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The Griffons will face eighth seeded Southwest Baptist in the opening round as are games are scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m. Northwest Missouri earned the second seed and will open up against seventh seeded Fort Hays State.

Third seeded Central Oklahoma will open their tournament against sixth seeded Central Missouri. In the final first round match-up it is fourth seeded Pittsburg State taking on fifth seeded Northeastern State.

The games will be played at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium Complex in Oklahoma City, Okla. with games being played on four fields within the complex and championship game being played in the stadium.

Jim's prediction:

I do believe the final two teams will be Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri. Both teams have talented and experienced senior pitchers with Janie Smith and Shyanne Saladino for the Griffons and Kendle Schieber and Sarah Baldwin for the Bearcats. Missouri Western can mash the ball with Rathmann, Atwell, Shiflett, Hamilton, Green, Klosterman, Washington, and Korkie. That is intimidating. Northwest has more balanced lineup with speed from Blythe, Baderdeen, Moses, and Maher. In the end, I am going with Missouri Western. Watch for UCO being at home.

Great lakes valley

The regular season ended today for the GLVC and Indianapolis has won the regular season with 27-3 record. Missouri-St. Louis followed closely with 2nd place with 26-4 record. The interesting news is for the last spot for the conference tournament. There is a 3-way tie for the 8th and final spot with Illinois-Springfield, William Jewell, and Rockhurst. The conference will come out late tonight but I understand that William Jewell has earned the last spot with the tie breaker. The 1st tiebreaker is record against all team in conference that have advanced to tournament. Illinois-Springfield has 0 wins and is eliminated. William Jewell and Rockhurst have 5 wins each. I believe the 2nd tiebreaker is head to head competition. William Jewell did sweep their series with Rockhurst. If this is true, this is schedule for the next week:

Friday

Game 1: #1 Indianapolis vs. #8 William Jewell 10am
Game 2: #4 Maryville vs. #5 Truman State 10am
Game 3: #2 Missouri-St. Louis vs. #7 McKendree 12pm
Game 4: #3 Southern Indiana vs. #6 Bellarmine 12pm
Game 5: Loser Game #1 vs. Loser Game #2 2pm
Game 6: Loser Game #3 vs. Loser Game #4 2pm
Game 7: Winner Game #1 vs. Winner Game #2 4pm
Game 8: Winner Game #3 vs. Winner Game #4 4pm

Saturday

Game 9: Winner Game 5 vs. Loser Game 8 11am
Game 10: Winner Game 6 vs. Loser Game 7 11am
Game 11: Winner Game 7 vs. Winner Game 8 1pm
Game 12: Winner Game 9 vs. Winner Game 10 3 pm
Game 13: Winner Game 12 vs. Loser Game 11 5 pm

Sunday

Game 14: Winner Game 11 vs. Winner Game 13 12 pm
Game 15: IF GAME
